How we started

The work we came from

DNM was founded by engineers who had spent their careers inside other people's control systems — commissioning them, fixing them at three in the morning, and inheriting them with no drawings and no source code.

That is still the work. Most of what we are asked to do is not a new plant. It is a plant that already exists, that already runs, and that needs to keep running while something inside it is replaced.

Multi-brand

Five controller platforms, four SCADA systems, five drive lines. More than any comparable firm in this market names — and it matters because a plant rarely runs one brand.

Senior, reachable

The engineer who writes the code commissions it and takes the call when it stops. Nobody on site has to phone somebody else to approve a decision at 2am.

Honest scope

We say what we are not the right firm for. It costs a line item occasionally and it has never cost a client.

    Fifteen years in controls before founding DNM, most of it on fab and pharma utility systems across Chennai and Singapore. Leads the retrofit practice and is on site for every changeover window the company runs.

    Owns the programming standard and the code review that every project passes before it leaves. Background in batch process control on food and nutrition plant, and the reason recipes on DNM projects are data rather than logic.

How a project runs

Enquiry to annual maintenance, and what you get at each step

Seven steps. Each one produces something you keep, whether or not the project proceeds to the next.

  1. 01

    Enquiry

    A conversation with an engineer, not a form response. What the plant is, what has gone wrong or what is changing, and what your constraint actually is — usually a date or a shutdown window.

  2. 02

    Site study

    What is actually installed, rather than what the drawings say. I/O count, network topology, controller and SCADA versions, licence position, backup state, spares held, and photographs of everything.

  3. 03

    Functional design specification

    What the system will do, agreed in writing with the people who will operate it as well as the people buying it. Disagreements found here cost a meeting. Found during commissioning they cost a shutdown.

  4. 04

    Build and factory acceptance test

    Panel built and wired, program written and simulated, screens developed — all off-line while your plant keeps running. Then tested on the bench against a written schedule, with I/O forced point by point.

    Install and site acceptance test

    Delivery, positioning, termination and loop checks. Every field device proved end to end from the device to the value on the screen.

  6. 06

    Commissioning

    Dry runs, then wet runs, then production, with an engineer on site until it holds. Interlocks are deliberately tripped and observed rather than assumed to work.

    Support and AMC

    On-call response, scheduled visits, and periodic program backups that are proved to restore rather than merely taken.
