Control systems for food and beverage plants

Food plants run on changeover and traceability. A control system that makes a recipe change quick and a batch record complete is worth more than one with better graphics.

The plants we work on here mix continuous process, batch process and discrete packaging in one building, usually with equipment from a dozen OEMs on as many controller brands. Bringing them onto one head-end with one alarm philosophy is most of the value.

Wash-down changes the panel work more than people expect. Enclosure rating, gland positions, cable selection and drainage all get decided at design stage, because a panel that fails an IP test after installation is expensive to fix.

  • Recipe and batch handling that lets production add a product without calling an integrator
  • CIP sequence control with recorded time, temperature and concentration evidence
  • Line integration across mixed-brand OEM machines onto a single SCADA
  • Downtime and OEE capture that reflects why a line stopped, not just that it did

  • Utility metering split by line so cost per tonne is a real number
